Edward FitzGerald produced five editions of the Rubáiyát, containing a maximum of 101 stanzas each, but comprising 119 unique stanzas in various forms. Based on these five editions, I have compiled a complete FitzGerald Rubáiyát. The citation below each stanza is to be parsed as:
Thus the citation of Stanza 1 indicates that the reading given in this consolidation is drawn from Stanzas 1 and 2 of Edition 2, and Stanzas 3 and 4 of Edition 5. The fact that some stanzas are drawn from multiple original stanzas stems from the fact that FitzGerald was remarkably free in his use of Khayýám’s words, synthesizing his stanzas from several original rubai (pl. "rubaiyat").
